Painting and drawing

Ian plans to continue his residencies as a painter and lettercutter in 2009.

He will return to Ii in Finland for late (European) winter 2009 and then set out to walk part of the camino to Santiago de Compostella in spring.

Following that pilgrimage, he will walk the ancient Northern road through Spain, making drawings along the way, which will become oil paintings on slate and canvas.

In 2008, he will continue with inscriptions - in English and Italian, many in spiral form, from Tasso, Leopardi, Blake and Coleridge.

Current commissions

Commissions on wine themes (for Wirra Wirra at McLaren Vale, in honour of Greg Trott) continue, as do works for schools and works drawn from Gibbon's Decline and Fall and from Australian journals of exploration.

Song inscriptions continue to be important, currently taken from Jackson Browne, Van Morrison, and the great American song book tradition.
